In an hour, myself and a few others from Malaysia would be boarding our rather long flight to Washington DC to embark on our YSEALI Professional Fellowship Program for the 2018 Fall intake. Not a stranger to travelling, based overseas nor visiting the US, it is still exciting to embark on this adventure to learn and exchange best practices with fellow Fellows, as well as the City of Dubuque in Iowa on environmental sustainability issues!
Having visited the US 3 years ago for 6 weeks, I’m really curious to explore Dubuque and its hospitality after experiencing the large East and West Coast cities like New York City, Boston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland and Seattle. The calls with our host, Cori, so far have assured us it would be an interesting time there being a small town with friendly locals. I’ve also been impressed by Dubuque’s pioneering effort in kerb side recycling and food waste collection – an area which is very pertinent for growing cities and my community challenge in community mindset change through small initiatives.
Over the next 6 weeks, I would be sharing updates on this new adventure and am looking forward to share more about Malaysia as well as getting to know the US better!
