Looking forward to Timor-Leste!

I learned so much about the world’s 2nd youngest country when hosting Marcos in Newburyport, MA this spring. I am really excited to learn more about this fascinating country, its people, resources — and waste management and community gardening.

Marcos and I were working on waste reduction and diversion ideas when the discussion led us to analysis of primary sources of waste and where reductions could be made. It turns out, a very very very high percentage of food for the population comes from China – and is packaged/wrapped in plastics. Developing better gardening and nutrition locally could make a huge difference in their waste generation – not to mention trade balance.

I look forward to hearing about other projects, past and present. Advice very welcome!
