A brief introduction – my name is Shaikh Faiz and I’m from Brunei. I currently work at the Ministry of Energy, Manpower & Industry in Brunei, under the Renewable Energy Unit. I’ve heard a lot about the YSEALI progam since it’s inception under the Obama administration and his goal of fostering deeper relations and interactions between the US and ASEAN.
Early this year, I applied for the hell of it, just to try it out, push some boundaries. In the end I feel genuinely grateful for the opportunity – to be able get some working experience in the United States, along with the opportunities to develop networks and friendships with those on the other side of the world as well as other fellows from ASEAN. I am always keen to learn, broaden my horizons and perspectives. I have always been interested and passionate towards environmental issues, and I’m glad and grateful to have made the cut as a fellow under Environmental Sustainability.
This is my second time heading to America, but the first time on the mainland (previously in Oahu, Hawaii), in Washington, D.C. and Florida. I’m looking forward to meeting my hosts and learn a couple of things to bring back and facilitate growth for renewable energy via policy and projects in Brunei! I am nervous but excited at what’s to come. Here we go!
