When I was a sophomore student in college, I took english course privately. I remember that my teacher asked me, “Where is the country do you want to go the most?”. Spontaneously, I answered United States of America. I chose USA without any strong reasons. I also had never gone abroad yet at that time. Year by year has passed, I obtained some chances to join beneficial program and training for strengthen my skill on environmental activity.
Fortunately, I was selected as YSEALI Professional Fellow Fall 2019 delegate by U.S. Embassy on Environmental Sustainability issue back to a couple months ago. I am driving this program based on my professional as coordinator at PlastikDetox movement. This program provides emerging leaders ages 25-35 the opportunity to spend six weeks in the United States, including four weeks working directly with American counterparts in individually tailored work placements with relevant private and/or public sector organizations. For me, Jolly from Vietnam and I will be working with Arlington City government in Massachusetts, proudly to present my lovely host Charlotte Milan.
After a long preparation and a lot of travels, today I arrived in Washington, D.C for orientation week. Thank you so much for all your kindness, my family, my relatives, my friends, the U.S Embassy of Indonesia also the committee for your interminable support. Finally, I am ready to join this program with 300 delegates across the globe in Uncle Sam country.
If I back to my sophomore year dream, it was seven years ago. There were a plenty experiences happening in myself. I have never had specific target to go to U.S before, but the universe works. Some people asked me, ‘why did you get this opportunity?’. I promise, the answer will be written in the other chapter. One thing that you need to do is nurturing your mind carefully to learn more and give more.
