After a whirlwind week of meetings and visits, it was clear that it takes a whole village (or in this case, the city) to make sustainability a reality.
In achieving a green city, there were also the private sector as well as people sector that needed to play their part. And it was these partnerships and dynamics that I observed during this week that made it work. It was a reminder that building and maintaining relationships in these areas are key pillars to ensuring that sustainable lifestyles are established.
Of course, being able to visit and meet key personnel in the waste industry was an honour but also enlightening. I was struck by how passionate these individuals were in their respective roles. That’s perhaps the secret sauce in making the work stick.
