We spent the first week getting to know our host organisation, LOOP NOLA.
“LOOP provides positive, life-changing outdoor adventures to children and youth regardless of their family income, physical limitations, or experience, LOOP NOLA is making the outdoors safe, fun and meaningful for thousands of local students. From learning to canoe to playing team building games in local parks, we develop students’ social and emotional skills through challenges and nurture a lasting relationship with the outdoors. Come join us on this adventure and make the outdoors possible for deserving urban children.”
This is similar to what I’m trying to achieve back at home – build environmental ownership among Sabahan youth through different mediums. The pairing couldn’t be more appropriate as our (Sabah) youth need to spend more time outdoor to realise that the environment belongs to them and they should take charge of conserving it.
We also went to the Lake Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation to learn and experience how they conduct their environmental education programs. This organisation focuses more on water and aquatic ecosystems which is right up my alley.
